Robben Island and Camps Bay

Today was Robben Island day, we took a 30 minute boat ride to the island and saw some Seals swimming about, it was very cool and great weather once again (i'll just keep throwing that in there).
the view of table mountain from the ocean and from the Island was something else, but what was most astonishing was really the history of Robben Island and how it is infact much more than just a cell block where Apartheid Political prisoners were kept. there were penguins flapping around the island (we saw two nestling up to each other in the bushes ;)) tortoises (saw the tiniest little tortoise and i love me some tortoise so that was pretty damn good) and other wildlife.
the prison tour was short but sweet, we were taken around by a former political prisoner (his name was pretty hard to catch) but it was great to have him there to teach us not only about the prison but about his own personal experiences. we walked past Mandelas cell and got a photo opportunity, it was tiny with just a bucket some towels and nothing else, sparse and dull. it was pretty moving stuff.
Lee was keen to get a picture of me behind bars in one of the cells, which i thought was a bit distasteful haha so floating around somewhere is a picture of me looking solemn in an apartheid political prisoner slammer. nice.
The over crowded boat ride back saw Keiser offer her lap to some cute south african school kids (in the UK you'd probably be arrested for that) but it shows the relatively laid back attitude over here. if you've ever been acquainted with what is known as 'African Time' then you will be aware of the relaxed attitude. African Time is basically the way i work, not particularly punctual shall we say.
The best part of the day and perfect photo opportunity was probably our visit to Camps Bay. the journey there alone was pretty eventful, over here they have 'Minibus Taxis' which do exactly what they say on the tin, except there are usually about 2 or 3 men in the taxi already, one calls out out of the window where the cabs headed, the other drives and they scoop you up as quickly as possible and drive like maniacs. unfortunately we managed to flag two minibus taxis at once which ended up in a small scrap between the two competing taxis...a few slaps and exchanging of profanities, but all was well in the end. It was better than your usual taxi as our journey had an awesome soundtrack which consisted of Lil Wayne and Tupac, very ghetto.
so Camps Bay, it was beautiful, we had another great view of Table Mountain and the horizon, there are some cool pictures that i need to upload, all in due time. we spent some time on the rocks and on the beach playing frisbee and poking and popping washed up jelly fish, i think everyone on this trip is a sadist or repressed killer, alot of time was seriously spent poking these poor washed up jelly fish. another amusing incident saw a few folk get scammed from some 'food vendors' walking along the beach, very professional looking of course (:I) we were hoping to get some beer, stupidly gave the money to the guy first who was gonna go 'fetch' them for us...45 minutes later he's nowhere to be seen. we, sir, had been truly swindled. 'welcome to south africa' was Thobelos response, i suppose you deserve to be scammed if you're that gullible to hand the money over first eh! ho hum.
