blubber

Had a damn good weekend in cape town finishing off the orientation shizz.
Friday was african drumming,it was short but sweet and really fun. the guy sort of teaching us was this bear like white guy who was sweating a treat during the whole thing. then we headed to a cuban style cocktail place for some drinks, appparently it was world cleavage day the day we entered this lair of torso cracks, some of the waitresses left little to the imagination i'll tell you that for nothing! cocktails are blooody cheap here which is a pro plus but also deadly, on average there around 35 rand for a decent cocktail (not too stingy with the liqqqqqqqqueur either) which is under 3 squid. food is cheap too which is why my waistline is steadily expanding.
yesterday we to seal island checked out the seals swimming around lazing on the rocks and that sort of shiiit, it was cool to see them so close, toddling their way into the water and dipping in and out, i was kind of hoping to see a seal get devoured by a hulking great white, alas was not to be no sign of sharkage yet. we went to boulders beach and saw the african penguins who are equally fascinating...ok i lie boulders beach was actually quite dissapointing, penguins are boring sons of guns. we spent a good few minutes watching one penguin lying down with its beak wide open, it looked like it was attempting to lay some eggs but i think in reality it was constipated.
we 'hiked' our way around Cape of Good Hope up to Cape Point, there was some DEELIGHTFUL scenery my camera decided to be a bastard so i don't have any good photos of cape point or of the lighthouse at the top which has one of those classic posts saying how far it is to each city, buggery, it was almost as good as the one at simon balle.
last night a few of us went to a schweet restaurant called Mama Africa it's quite famous apparently in cape town they serve food like crocodile, kudu, ostrich and traditional african cooking, lots of stews and meaty stuff. i tried a lil bit of ostrich i thought that would be ok as it's weird creepy meat so it doesn't count, plus its an opportunity you don't get everyday. the restaurant was very cool there was some amazing entertainment a group that called themselves Marimba Vibrations there's a link to a youtube video of them. by the end of the night most people were on the dance floor and taking it in turns to do a little jig on the stage, i did a little jig i'm ashamed to say and probably looked a riiiiight tit but it was fun and everyone seemed to be having an awesome time. the male singer was quite taken by one of the girls and basically proposed to Amy, it was an awkward moment when she laughed in his face simultaneously crushing his heart.
we went onto a couple of clubs around Long Street which is where most of the bars and nightlife is based, one of the clubs was playing house music so i had another good opportunity to make a titty of myself dancing, then onto a seriously overly crowded bar playing RnB and 'smooth licks' as some people like to refer to them as, this place was full to the brim with leacherous men and women and lots of groping, i made my way into a safe hovel and stood next to a bloke from mozambique that looked like Ol Dirty Bastard and had really thick dreadlocks, He smelt weird.
too much alcohol was consumed i fear, that was my first proper night out in cape town as last time we went partying i left early and was having a shitter of a night, but it was funfunfun. now its back to the projects and to our host families.
