happy easter, this week has been a long one, i've been here three weeks today. which doesn't sound like a long time but next week i would have been here a month already and nearly a third of the way through my adventures- sheesh.
this week i joined maddie at heavens nest a home for neglected/ abused/ abandoned kids some with HIV and AIDs, it was a nice place which is home to around 11 kids i only worked with 9 of them. it was a really enjoyable experience we have basically spent the whole week playing outside in the garden with the kids, blowing their noses which seem to stream a ridiculous amount, they also enjoy picking their noses and wiping the bogies onto my clothing, i didn't appreciate this but by the end of the week the bogey thing became tolerable. the kids are lovely pretty manic and all demand attention and fight to get it. the ages ranged from 18 months to 7. after only a couple of days i feel like i'm gonna miss them when i go to the primary school after the easter break finishes, i'm working my way round the projects. i have some photos of the kiddy pops which i shall upload at some point.
when it comes to our host family we have a rather unconventional set up compared to other folks on the programme as me and maddie are 'managed' by 'project manager' called Verna who also lives on another little cottage on the farm with her mum Cecelia. me and Maddie now think of Cecelia as our host mum, she's a teacher at one of the private primary schools and she is absolutely lovely, very interesting women. she is now teaching us to bead and make multi strand necklaces, she's made some amazing bits so hopefully in a week or so if i work at it i will have completed a beaded work of art, don't hold me to it. it's nice to have something to do in the evenings, other than watch oprah and 7 Delaan (afrikaan soapie which is a pile 'o' shite).
most people have gone away for the easter weekend me and maddie made a last minute decision to stay in Cape town avoid traffic and busy tourist hot spots and make themost of this fiiiiiine weather, we're staying in an awesome hostel called The Backpacker, it's pretty snazzy, nice bar, time has been spent sunbathing on the beach, looking at creepy/ disturbing african masks and souveneirs at a Pan African Market, going to the SA museum and Planetarium which was bloody amazing but hurt my neck looking at the presentation. also today i saw Born Disaster again coincidently we were by the beach and he was selling some other woodeny thing, he has had his hair cut and he seemed more reserved and less funloving as the first time our paths crossed...Born Disaster 4Lyfe.
i realise i need to spend less money before i run out which is inevitable so if anyone who is reading this has any spare dollars they want to throw my way then feel free to donate all proceeeds go to a well deserving cause!
